Manufacturers Using ‘Fillers’ and cheap beans to lower costs.

In my recent book, “The Best Cup Of Coffee In The World”, I dedicated a few pages to the naughty trend of coffee manufacturers finding ways to cheat the consumer or trick them into paying inflated prices for inferior products.

Below is an article on that subject.

Pay attention to what you are buying… has the weight of the package changed? Does the product taste different? Is there a change in the label to indicate a new formulation? Any unidentified ‘fillers’ or substitutes or additives?

These folks are very tricky and clever when it comes to making changes that add pennies to their pockets.

My advice?! Buy green coffee beans from a reliable supplier and  roast and grind them yourself.

Processing Green Coffee Beans the Old Fashioned Way

During our visit to the coffee growing region of Cavite, we visited the farm, observed the drying process, and now we observe how the dried beans are processed to extract the green coffee bean.

This process involves all hand work and it’s very tedious but it’s the only way small farmers are able to process their own beans. Larger farms and commercial growers take their crops to be processed by commercial businesses.

Old Fashioned Drying Method

During our visit to the coffee growing region in Cavite, we spent some time studying the way coffee is processed and used… from tree to cup.

This video shows the drying slab at the farm we visited and even though the season was pretty much over there were a few beans drying on the slab.
